Participating in the Joint ESHET–HES Conference in Nice ニースでのESHET-HES合同大会に参加して

2026年5月26日から29日にかけて、フランス、ニースで開催されたESHET-HES合同大会に参加しました。本大会は、経済学史分野における二つの主要学会—ESHET（European Society for the History of Economic Thought）とHES（History of Economics Society）—が初めて合同で開催した、記念すべきイベントです。世界中から多くの研究者が集まり、経済学史という専門領域における国際的な交流の場として、非常に活気に満ちた学会でした。私自身にとっても、大変有意義な時間となりました。旧知の研究仲間との再会に加え、これまで名前だけは知っていた研究者との初対面、さらには今回初めて知り合うことになった方々との出会いなど、会期中を通して実に多くの交流の機会に恵まれました。

私は今回、“Lange’s Central Planning Agency and Walras’s Concept of State Entrepreneur: The Illusion of Continuity”という論文を発表しました。ワルラスの一般均衡理論をもとに市場社会主義の理論を構築したランゲの議論と、ワルラス自身の科学的社会主義に関する思想との間にある断絶を明らかにし、両者の連続性という通説に疑問を投げかける、やや挑戦的な内容です。特に幸運だったのは、討論者がランゲ研究の専門家であるRoberto Lampa教授であったことです。専門的かつ的確なコメントを数多くいただき、自分の議論の強みと課題を改めて認識する貴重な機会となりました。

また学術的な刺激だけでなく、ニースという場所そのものも強く印象に残っています。学会主催の公式行事である、旧市街を徒歩で巡るツアーにも参加しました。歴史ある街並みと地中海の明るい空気の中を歩きながら、参加者同士の交流も深めることができました。さらにランチや公式ディナーでは南フランスならではの料理を堪能しました。今回の合同大会は、学問的な意義のみならず、人と人とのつながりを改めて実感させてくれる機会でした。ニースで得られた多くの出会いと議論を、今後の研究にしっかりと活かしていきたいと思います。

From May 26 to 29, 2026, I attended the joint ESHET-HES conference held in Nice, France. This conference was a landmark event, marking the first time that the two leading academic societies in the field of the history of economic thought—ESHET (European Society for the History of Economic Thought) and HES (History of Economics Society)—had come together to host a joint conference. Researchers from all over the world gathered, making it a vibrant conference that served as a forum for international exchange within the specialized field of the history of economic thought. It was a highly rewarding experience for me personally. In addition to reuniting with old research colleagues, I had the opportunity to meet researchers whose names I had previously only known, as well as to connect with people I was meeting for the first time, enjoying a wealth of networking opportunities throughout the conference.

I presented a paper titled “Lange’s Central Planning Agency and Walras’s Concept of State Entrepreneur: The Illusion of Continuity.” This paper is somewhat provocative in that it highlights the disconnect between Lange’s arguments—which constructed a theory of market socialism based on Walras’s general equilibrium theory—and Walras’s own ideas regarding scientific socialism, thereby challenging the conventional wisdom that the two are continuous. I was particularly fortunate that my discussant was Professor Roberto Lampa, an expert on Lange studies. He provided numerous professional and insightful comments, offering me a valuable opportunity to reevaluate the strengths and weaknesses of my argument.

In addition to the academic stimulation, the city of Nice itself left a strong impression on me. As part of the conference program, I participated in a walking tour of the old town. Walking through the historic streets and the bright Mediterranean atmosphere allowed us to deepen our connections with fellow participants. Furthermore, during lunch and the official dinner, we enjoyed cuisine unique to the South of France. This joint conference was an opportunity not only for academic significance but also to reaffirm the importance of human connections. I intend to fully utilize the many encounters and discussions I had in Nice in my future research.

has been accepted for presentation at the 2026 ESHET-HES Joint Conference, which will take place in Nice, France, from May 26 to 29, 2026. I look forward to sharing these insights and engaging in stimulating discussions with scholars from around the world!

このたび、私の論文「ランゲの中央計画当局とワルラスの企業者国家概念：連続性の幻想」が、2026年5月26日～29日にフランス・ニースで開催されるESHET-HES合同カンファレンスでの発表に採択されました。世界中の研究者たちと刺激的な議論ができることを楽しみにしています！

ESHET 2025 Torinoに参加しました

2025年5月22日から24日までイタリアのトリノで開催された the European Society for the History of Economic Thought (ESHET)の第28回年次大会に参加しました。開催場所のトリノ大学は、1404年設立のイタリアでもっとも古い大学のひとつです。美しいデザインの校舎は、世界的に知られています。

From May 22 to 24, 2025, I attended the 28th Annual Conference of the European Society for the History of Economic Thought (ESHET) held in Turin, Italy. The conference was hosted at the University of Turin, one of the oldest universities in Italy, founded in 1404. Its beautifully designed campus is renowned worldwide.

　約300の論文が報告される大規模な学会でした。私は、初日のセッションMacroeconomics (I) で、 Keith Jakee 教授（Florida Atlantic University）の論文 “Full Employment for All: Or, how Macroeconomics Displaced the Entrepreneur“の討論者を務めました。そして最終日の セッションAlternative Approaches to the Neoclassical School で、自分の論文 “Rethinking Kirzner’s Critique of Walras: Competition, Entrepreneurship, and Justice”を発表しました。このセッションの参加者は少なかったですが、司会を学会会長のRichard  Sturn  教授（University of Graz）が務め、この分野で著名な研究者たちが集まり、とても緊張しました。報告論文については、討論者の Johannes Schmidt 教授（ Hochschule Karlsruhe – HKA）をはじめ、多く方々から有益なコメントをもらいました。また同じセッションでCuri  Luiz Felipe Bruzzi 教授 （Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais-UFMG）の“Roscher and Schmoller as Historians: the German Historical School Reconsidered”という論文の討論者も務めました。このような少数精鋭のセッションに参加できたのは、たいへん幸運でした。

It was a large-scale conference with approximately 300 papers presented. On the first day, I served as a discussant for Professor Keith Jakee (Florida Atlantic University) during the session “Macroeconomics (I)” for his paper titled “Full Employment for All: Or, how Macroeconomics Displaced the Entrepreneur.” On the final day, I presented my paper “Rethinking Kirzner’s Critique of Walras: Competition, Entrepreneurship, and Justice” during the session “Alternative Approaches to the Neoclassical School.” Although there were not many participants in this session, it was chaired by Professor Richard Sturn (University of Graz), the conference president, and featured prominent researchers in the field, making it a very tense experience. Regarding my paper, I received valuable comments from many participants, including Professor Johannes Schmidt (Hochschule Karlsruhe – HKA), who served as a discussant. Additionally, I served as a discussant for Professor Curi Luiz Felipe Bruzzi (Federal University of Minas Gerais – UFMG) during the same session for his paper titled “Roscher and Schmoller as Historians: The German Historical School Reconsidered.” It was a great honor to participate in such a stimulating session with a small but highly accomplished group of scholars.

　学会の公式ディナーは、19世紀のガレリア　La Galleria Subalpinaの中にあるArcadiaという美しいレストランで開催されました。トリノ大学の校舎は、このガレリアからヒントを得てデザインされたのかなと思いました。

The official dinner of the conference was held at Arcadia, a beautiful restaurant located in the 19th-century La Galleria Subalpina. I wondered if the design of the University of Turin’s campus was inspired by this gallery.

滞在中、観光をする時間はありませんでしたが、ホテルから大学まで片道2キロ程度、毎日徒歩で通い、トリノの美しい旧市街の眺めを楽しみました。

My schedule during this trip was very tight, and I didn’t have any time for sightseeing, but the university was only about 2 km from the hotel, so I walked there and back and enjoyed the beautiful view of Turin’s old town.

ESHET 2025 Torinoで論文発表します

2025年5月22日から24日までイタリアのトリノ大学で開催されるEuropean Society for the History of Economic Thought（ESHET） 第28回年次大会に参加することになりました。”Rethinking Kirzner’s Critique of Walras: Competition”（カーズナーのワルラス批判再考： 競争、アントレプレナーシップ、そして正義）という論文を発表します。プログラムはこちらです。この論文は、現在進行中の科研費プロジェクトの研究業績の一部です。ワルラスと新オーストリア学派の関係については、実は学部生時代からずっと考え続けてきましたが、長い年月を経てようやくその成果を論文にまとめることができました。またESHETの大会に参加するのは、パンデミックの前の2019年のリール大会以来6年ぶりです。多くの研究者たちと再会できることを心から楽しみにしています。

I will be participating in the 28th Annual Conference of the European Society for the History of Economic Thought, which will be held at the University of Turin in Italy from May 22 to 24, 2025. I will be presenting a paper titled “Rethinking Kirzner’s Critique of Walras: Competition, Entrepreneurship, and Justice.” The program can be found here. This paper is part of the research outcomes of an ongoing Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research project. I have been thinking about the relationship between Walras and the Neo-Austrian School since my undergraduate days, and after many years, I am finally able to present the results of this research in a paper. This will be my first time attending an ESHET conference since the 2019 conference in Lille, six years ago, before the pandemic. I am truly looking forward to reconnecting with many researchers.

　

AIW2024 Tokyo conference has come to a close 国際ワルラス学会東京大会閉幕

2024年9月9日と10日に東京で開催された国際ワルラス学会第11回大会は無事、閉幕しました。この大会に世界各国から参加してくださった皆さん、学会運営に協力してくださった明治大学の関係者の方々、どうもありがとうございました。

The 11th Conference of the International Walras Association, which was held in Tokyo on September 9th and 10th, 2024, has now come to a close. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in the conference from countries around the world, as well as to the staff at Meiji University who helped to organize the conference.

私は、ワルラスとシュンペーターの関係について新しい視点から論じる論文を発表しました。大変鋭いコメントをくれた討論者、ストラスブール大学のSina Badiei氏に感謝します。

I presented a paper discussing the relationship between Walras and Schumpeter from a new perspective. I would like to thank the discussant, Dr. Sina Badiei of the University of Strasbourg, for his very perceptive comments.

この大会で、大変名誉なことに、私は学会の新しい会長に選ばれました。次回の大会は、2026年にローザンヌで開催される予定です。また多くの仲間たちと会えることを楽しみにしています。

I am very honored to be elected as the new President of the Association at this conference. The next conference is scheduled to be held in Lausanne in 2026. I look forward to seeing many of my colleagues again.
