2024年12月14日と16日、パリにあるフランス国立図書館を訪れました。滋賀大学が所蔵しているワルラスの書簡をめぐる謎を解くために決め手となる手稿が同図書館に所蔵されているため、それを閲覧することが今回の訪問の最大の目的でした。まずは、事前にネットで申請してあった研究者用のパスを受け取りに、同図書館のリシュリュー館を訪れました。

On December 14th and 16th 2024, I visited the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris. The main purpose of this visit was to view the manuscript that are held in the library, which would be the key to solving the mystery concerning the letters of Walras held by Shiga University. First, I visited the Richelieu site of the library to receive the researcher’s pass that I had applied for online in advance.

These are the reading rooms of the Richelieu library. I’ve never seen such beautiful reading rooms.

フランス国立図書館の博物館も見学しました。歴史研究者必見の貴重な資料を見ることができました。

I also visited the museum of the BnF. I was able to see valuable materials that are a must-see for historical researchers.

そしていよいよ目当ての資料があるアルスナル図書館へ。1797年に設立された由緒ある文書館です。厳かな雰囲気の中で、貴重な資料を閲覧することができ、謎を解く重要な手がかりが得られました。

Finally, I went to the Arsenal Library, which holds the manuscript that I was looking for. It is a historic archive that was established in 1797. I was able to view the valuable materials in a solemn atmosphere and obtain precious clues to solving the mystery.

In Memory of Professor Hideo Tanaka 田中秀夫先生を偲ぶ会

　2024年12月1日、社会思想史研究会の特別例会として、京都大学名誉教授の田中秀夫先生(1949-2023)を偲ぶ会が開催されました。この会には先生とゆかりのある研究者たちが50人ほど参加し、先生の研究業績やお人柄を振り返るスピーチが披露されました。私は、田中先生の指導を直接受けたことはありませんが、大学院生時代から論文のコメントをいただき、大変影響を受けました。特に博士論文(1999)の審査や『ワルラス社会経済学研究』(2023) の出版をめぐって大変お世話になりました。そのことをスピーチでお話ししました。先生のご冥福をお祈りします。

On December 1, 2024, a special meeting was held to commemorate Professor Emeritus Hideo Tanaka (1949-2023) of Kyoto University. About 50 researchers who had a connection with the professor attended the event, and speeches were given looking back on his research achievements and personality. Although I never received direct guidance from Professor Tanaka, I was greatly influenced by his comments on my papers when I was a graduate student. In particular, he was one of the examiners for my Ph.D. thesis (1999). I am also very grateful to him for all his help in publishing my Japanese translation of Walras’s Study of Social Economics (2023). I spoke about this in my speech. I pray for the repose of his soul.

Revue européenne des sciences sociales is a journal dedicated to the history of economic and social thought, first published in 1963. It is published by Librairie Droz, a Geneva-based publisher, and was originally called Cahiers Vilfredo Pareto. It is also the first journal to publish my English article.

It is a happy coincidence that the first review of my first monograph in English was also published in this journal. I hope this book will be read by many people around the world.

AIW2024 Tokyo conference has come to a close 国際ワルラス学会東京大会閉幕

2024年9月9日と10日に東京で開催された国際ワルラス学会第11回大会は無事、閉幕しました。この大会に世界各国から参加してくださった皆さん、学会運営に協力してくださった明治大学の関係者の方々、どうもありがとうございました。

The 11th Conference of the International Walras Association, which was held in Tokyo on September 9th and 10th, 2024, has now come to a close. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in the conference from countries around the world, as well as to the staff at Meiji University who helped to organize the conference.

私は、ワルラスとシュンペーターの関係について新しい視点から論じる論文を発表しました。大変鋭いコメントをくれた討論者、ストラスブール大学のSina Badiei氏に感謝します。

I presented a paper discussing the relationship between Walras and Schumpeter from a new perspective. I would like to thank the discussant, Dr. Sina Badiei of the University of Strasbourg, for his very perceptive comments.

この大会で、大変名誉なことに、私は学会の新しい会長に選ばれました。次回の大会は、2026年にローザンヌで開催される予定です。また多くの仲間たちと会えることを楽しみにしています。

I am very honored to be elected as the new President of the Association at this conference. The next conference is scheduled to be held in Lausanne in 2026. I look forward to seeing many of my colleagues again.
